Hope all is well. I’ve been thinking about what to post since I’ve been (obviously) struggling with keeping up with this blog. But life get busy and sometimes really messy so are with me and one day I’ll post consistently.
But for now, here are 20 questions about the music I like.
- Your favorite song?
F*cking hell, I can’t choose my favorite song of all time. My current favorite one, however, is Dizzy On the Comedown by Turnover. Such an amazing album and an even more amazing band (also the color of the vinyl is bomb)
- The song you hate the most?
Wind of Change by The Scorpions. Cheers to my dad, who always told me how shitty this song was and made me dislike it very much. (Also not going to put this on the playlist.)
- A song that makes you sad?
I have a few songs for this questions because I can’t decide between these three.
Youth by Daughter, which – I feel like – is a classic sad song. But her voice is just so raw and vulnerable and the lyrics are so good and it makes me tear up 90% of the time.
Between the Bars by Elliot Smith. This man was truly a legend, and if you’re ever sad and want to be even sadder listen to pretty much any of his songs. I’ve got so much love for this man.
I Thought U Were Better Than That by Cyberbully Mom Club. Just a nice lo-fi song that makes me sad at least twice a day, because I love it too much to not listen to it. Even if that means randomly getting very sad on the subway.
- A song that reminds you of someone?
Diamant (Love Hotel Band) by Yung Hurn reminds me of my brother. Please don’t make me explain.
- A song that makes you happy?
You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon is usually playing as soon as the sun is out. It puts me in such a good mood and I may or may not have accidentally have burst into a few dance moves on the street because I was so into the song. I wish I was kidding.
- A song that reminds you of a moment?
Bates Motel by The Bates was the first song I listened to on my dad’s old CD-Player when he gave me all his old CDs. Quite random to be fair, but it’s still a great song in my opinion (although probably not everyone’s taste).
- A song you know the lyrics to perfectly?
I know every word to Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot (I’m too shy to perform it when you put me on the spot however). Kind of embarrassed by that. I also know every word to König von Deutschland by Rio Reiser, cheers Paps.
- A song that makes you dance?
Stuck On You by the one and only King Of Rock’n’Roll Elvis Presley. What a man, what a song. Also A Big Hunk O’ Love. Everything by Elvis makes me dance, let’s be real.
- A song that helps you sleep?
Funnily enough it’s I’m Not Falling Asleep by Andy Shauf. Or Them and Some by Nils Frahm, who is an incredibly talented German pianist. Definitely one of my favorites.
- A song you like secretly?
I’m usually not embarrassed by the songs I like, so I can’t think of any. Soz.
- A song you relate to?
Right now I can really relate to If I Belive You by my all-time faves The 1975, for personal reasons that I’d rather not share on the internet. Also parts of Cigarette Daydreams by Cage The Elephant. (That is such an amazing album, good lord)
- A song you used to love but now hate?
Middle (feat. Bipolar Sunshine) by DJ Snake. Not sure what happened, I think it got bad because I listened to it too much. Also various boyband and pop-boys songs. So many.
- A song from your favorite album?
Again, can’t choose my favorite album of all time. However, I have been listening to Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours on repeat the last couple of days (always finding myself going back to this one. What a classic) and my favorite songs are definitely Dreams and Songbird. And All In White by The Vaccines on their album What Did You Expect from the Vaccines?, which is one of my all-time favorite songs.
- A song you can play on an instrument?
None. I can’t play any instruments, which is somewhat sad. I was able to play All My Little Ducklings on the piano once, but that’s probably history.
- A song you would like to sing in public?
None. My worst nightmare is having to sing in public, and having people watch me. No thank you.
- A song you would like to drive to?
I have two separate playlists for driving, one is for day and one for night and they are completely different. I once even had playlists for driving when it’s sunny or rainy and all different scenarios but that was too much, even for me as a playlist hoarder.
I think for driving during the day it is Man In The Sixties by Balue. Very indie, very nice, always puts me in such a good mood.
And for driving at night it’s definitely Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap. If you listen to it, and you ever drove at night you can guess why. If not, listen to this song when you’re driving by night. You can thank me after.
- A song from your childhood?
Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash. Why does my dad have such an influence on my music taste, I’ve never realised how strong it is.
- A song no one expects you to like?
I feel like my music taste is broad enough for people to not be surprised by something I like. Maybe Quelqu’un m’a dit by Carla Bruni, purely because it’s French and I don’t speak French except for what Christina Aguilera has taught me. But it’s such a beautiful song.
- A song you would like to play at your wedding?
I’ve always wanted to have Für immer und dich by Rio Reiser (again, my dad) played at my wedding. But I also really like Baby I’m Yours by Arctic Monkeys, which doesn’t sound like Arctic Monkeys at all. But I do really like it, and anything they do is heavenly anyways so who cares.
- A song you would like to have at your funeral?
I actually had to laugh at this because I remembered what songs my dad wants at his funeral, and let me tell you they are not sad.
I don’t know what song I’d like to have at my funeral. Nothing sad, that’s for sure. Maybe Where’s My Mind? by Pixies, just so everyone can bop their head and play the air guitar.
